Sur Les Toits de Paris :: Best Panoramic Views in Paris
Whether you’re planning on proposing in Paris, an avid photographer seeking iconic photographs, or simply want to take in the glimmering city lights of La Ville Lumière at sunset, here are my go-to rooftop views of Paris that never cease to amaze. I’ve had the pleasure to have visited Paris countless times, and on each trip I discover something new. As an experienced photographer, I also love sharing knowledge with other photographers, whether you use your smart phone or the newest DSLR. I hope you’ll find this list helpful as you explore and find fun spots to take photos in Paris.

Tour Montparnasse 360 Observation Deck
This breathtaking panoramic view of Paris is always my first stop, any time of day, rain or shine. Every iconic and historic Paris landmark and monument is visible, and it’s arguably the best view of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The Montparnasse Tower Observation Deck allows you to soar over the city in every direction. It has two levels, one indoors and one open-air just above. Both are surrounded by protective glass that allows unencumbered views of Paris. It’s right next to the Gare Montparnasse and metro-accessible. Buying tickets is easy, inexpensive, and there’s no wait.
Galleries Lafayette Haussmann Terrace
For stunning views of Paris’s Opéra Garnier, Sacré Cœur and Montmartre, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and more. This is a fun one - run up all the escalators in the shopping center Galleries Lafayette Hausemann and you’ll find their quaint terrace. It’s open late until 8pm (verify on their website) and you can enjoy food and drinks as well. One of the best views of Paris at sunset.
L’Arc de Triomphe
One of my most popular Paris prints was taken from the top of the Arc of Triumph. Go for a stroll along the Champs Elysées and end your afternoon gazing in all directions as the sun sets on Paris.
La Tour Eiffel
Another incredible 360 view of the city of light. Venture up to the top level and see the Champ de Mars, Arc de Trimomphe, museums, the Seine River, and all of Paris.
Le Sacré-Coeur Basilica
This panoramic view of Paris offers an incredible look at the Eiffel Tower, Montparnasse Tower, Panthéon, Gare du Nord, Musée d’Orsay, Bois de Vincennes, La Défense, the Buttes-Chaumont, and the city of Saint-Denis. Even if you don’t venture into the basilica, you can still take in the city from their steps, and enjoy a bottle of wine at the same time.
Centre Pompidou
A great place to view the Eiffel Tower and rooftops of Paris. It’s located near the Marais and Les Halles. The Pompidou Center is the largest museum for modern art in Europe, and also contains a vast public library and a center for music and acoustic research. Take the escalators up to and gaze out over the city - they are on the outside of the building and offer unique views of Paris.
Musee d’Orsay
This former Beaux-Arts railway station was built between 1898 and 1900 and boasts an incredible collection of impressionist paintings from artists such as Monet, Manet, Pissarro, Morisot, and Renoir. The Musée d’Orsay should definitely be on your list of places to see in Paris on a quick trip. The view from the top floor restaurant and galleries is stunning, looking out over the Louvre Museum, Montmartre and the Sacré Coeur Basilica, and the Seine.
