What to Wear to an Engagement Photo Session
“What should I wear to my engagement photo shoot?”
This is, of course, the most common question asked by recently engaged couples who have just scheduled their engagement session. How to dress for your engagement session is an important question. You want to look your best, and look like *you*. Your engagement session wardrobe should encapsulate your personality as a couple. The most important thing about your engagement session outfits is that they make you feel happy, not frustrated, and beautiful, not self-conscious.
Dress well and your engagement photo session will be that much more enjoyable!
As a starting point, I tell my engagement session couples, think about what you would wear to a nice dinner. That means a suit, tie, button-down shirt for men, and elegant knee-length or maxi dresses for women. Natural fabrics, deep or pastel colors, no patterns, and a style that allows you to move freely to create coherence and unity in the photos. We want to avoid tugging on things (bra straps, short skirts, ill-fitting shirts whose cuffs are swallowed by too-long jacket sleeves).
Solid colors photograph better than patterns, deep colors over stark black, fitted rather than too long/short, form-fitting sleeves instead of tubetops, and close-toed kitten heels or high heels over chunky sandals.
I will also gladly offer my guidance on art direction, styling, and logistics to ensure you have an incredible experience in your session. To make the most out of a photoshoot, most couples send me photos of what they have in mind!
